We are Artists
INTENT
At Haydonleigh Primary School, it is our intention that when children study Art and Design that they will consider themselves to be practising and refining the skills of an artist. The children will have access to knowledge that develops their skills in drawing, painting, 3d modelling and other art and design techniques. At Haydonleigh, the art and design curriculum should inspire and challenge pupils thus developing their knowledge and skills to emulate, innovate, invent and create their own works of art and design. As pupils progress, their understanding of art and design will become embedded and they will be able to think critically about their own art, and the work of other artists. At Haydonleigh, our Art and Design curriculum is inclusive of different periods, cultures and genders. Pupils will understand that Art and Design can reflect our history, both that which has already happened and that which is happening now. Pupils will learn about how art and design can contribute to the culture, creativity and the wealth of our nation. Our art pieces will be given purpose and displayed, for children to showcase their pieces, their design process and to celebrate their creativity.
IMPLEMENTATION
Children will be given many opportunities to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Skills will be taught and developed each year in their Sketch Book, which will move up the school with them. In this, they will clearly be able to see their progression. These skills will them be applied when children design their own piece of art work. They will use their analytical knowledge to evaluate creative works using the language of art and design. They will study artists and art styles to understand their background and influences for their style of art.
IMPACT
Children at Haydonleigh School will be able to use a range of materials creatively to design and create pieces using drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. They will have learned a wide rage of techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. They will know about the work of a range of artists- describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines and they will use this knowledge to make links to their own work. The will have confidence to express themselves and their ideas creatively, making choices about how best to do this and to develop their own style.
