YOUNG CARERS

At Haydonleigh, we are committed to supporting our Young Carers and their families. We have received the Young Carers Award which raises awareness and provides support to those pupils who are Young Carers.

What is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is child or young person whose life is affected because they are responsible for looking after someone at home. This can include a parent, grandparent, sibling or other family member. The people they look after may have a physical or learning disability, long term illness, mental health illness or suffer with substance misuse problems.

Caring Tasks

The additional care and responsibilities Young Carers have might include:

  • Personal care
  • Housework
  • Lifting
  • Shopping
  • Giving medication
  • Looking after siblings
  • Emotional care
  • Financial care

Haydonleigh has a designated member of staff who has special responsibility for Young Carers and will ensure that all support is offered and co-ordinated to suit each individual.

Currently our designated liaison is:   Mrs Workman

If you think your child may be a Young Carer then please let us know so we can help.
