Online Safety at Haydonleigh – Helping Our Children Stay Safe Online

Our Intent

At Haydonleigh, we want every child to grow up using technology safely, kindly and confidently. From their very first day, we teach children to:

• Use technology responsibly and respectfully.

• Show kindness and empathy when they talk or play online.

• Work together in a spirit of togetherness, helping to keep everyone safe.

• Know what to do if something online makes them feel worried or unsure.

• Understand how our Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) helps keep them safe at school and at home.

We talk to pupils about the amazing things the internet lets us do – learn, create, play and connect – but we also teach them about possible risks like sharing personal information, cyberbullying, or seeing things that are not true. Children learn that not everything online can be trusted. We help them understand that photos, videos and messages can sometimes be changed, copied or misleading. Our lessons include the four key areas of online risk from Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025: Content, Contact, Conduct and Commerce.

Our Implementation

• Online safety is taught regularly from Reception to Year 6 through our Project EVOLVE programme.

• Each term, children take part in lessons and discussions about staying safe and being kind online. These lessons link with Computing, PSHE/RSE and our assemblies.

• We celebrate Safer Internet Week every year and invite visitors such as the local PSCOs and the NSPCC to talk to pupils.

• Teachers add extra lessons if new issues arise (for example, new apps, games or trends).

• All staff receive annual online‑safety training, including updates on new technologies like AI, and on the school’s filtering and monitoring systems, which are reviewed each year.

• We teach pupils to think carefully before clicking, chatting or sharing — and to always tell a trusted adult if they feel unsure.

Our Impact

• Know how to keep themselves and others safe online.

• Recognise and report anything that feels wrong or upsetting.

• Understand privacy, consent and respect when sharing or posting.

• Use the internet with resilience, kindness and togetherness.

• Feel confident that if they ask for help, an adult will listen and take them seriously.

We want every Haydonleigh child to enjoy the digital world, make positive choices, and leave our school ready to belong, achieve and thrive – both online and offline.
